Introduction

I've been thinking about starting a blog to track our water skiing escapades and finally sat down to do it. So, a little about ourselves:

Jerry, 35 years old - learned to ski at 7 years old; skis on pair, slalom, tricks, slalom trick, shoe skis, ski skat, backwards skis, backwards slalom, wakeboard and barefoot once.

Jenny, 34 years old - learned to ski at 24 years old; skis on pair, slalom, tricks and wakeboard.

There are also a large selection of family and friends that we will post about and post pictures/videos of. We ski behind a 2003 Glastron SX17. Our home lake is Lake Waco in Waco, TX. We also have a standing tradition of a water skiing vacation with family & friends at Lake Tenkiller in Northeast Oklahoma. As a family we have vacationed at Lake Tenkiller almost every year since 1960. A tradition that my grandparents, Loren & Emma Lou Davis, started and continued until we took over in 2001 after we bought his boat from him.

Together, Jenny and I love to teach people how to ski. We are both excellent boat drivers and have taught dozens of people/kids to ski. It is great to have TWO skilled teachers in the boat for beginners because we can both share our own versions of what works for each of us. For kids, Jenny gets in the water with them and instructs them "hands on" until they get comfortable on their own.

Enough about us for now. My intention is to post after each day that we get to water ski. I'll also be posting excerts from our family journal that we have kept during our vacations at Lake Tenkiller.

Much more to follow.
May your winds be calm and your water be glass.

  3. I'm Rebekah: learned to ski at 7 years old. Skis on pair, slalom, tricks, and wakeboard.

This gives me goosebumps, Jerry. Skiing is such a huge part of who we are. I'm sad that I've gotten so far from it, but I can't wait until Tenkiller 2010!

    Thanks for keeping us posted!

  4. I'm Jerry's mom. I first got up on skis on my 12th birthday. There's a lot of things I used to be able to do (like take off one ski, hold it over my head and then put it back on again--all while skiing.) These days I'm lucky to get up. But it's still fun.

    PS. Jerry, is this better?

  5. How do you get on the "frequent skier" list? "Kathy--got up for the first time on my 12th birthday. Past accomplishments--slalom, show skier, ballet routine, baton routine, Hi Neighbor, flag routine, pyramid, doubles, backwards, backwards slalom, shoe skis, teacher and boat driver. Today I'm happy to get up on two and loving it!"

  6. I am Lisa, Jerry's aunt. I started skiing on the front of my big brother's skis at age two or three, I guess, correct me if I got that wrong, guys. My fondest memories was skiing early mornings on Tenkiller with Dad and Kathy and/or Jeananne glassy water and knowing when we came in after the wind picked up and the rest of the lake woke up we could come in and have a killer breakfast that Mom had been frying up for us! Life at its best!!

  7. Actually, Lisa, you started with Charles pulling you along the shore on a pair of skis that he and Dad made in the garage using a pair of your bedroom slippers for your bindings. They painted them red. Not a very successful project at any level, but I wish we still had those skis.

  8. Lisa - I think most of us learned to ski riding on someone else's skis. So that doesn't count or else Lee learned at about 3 riding two pieces of wood holding on to the rope tied on the pillar of the carport in Baton Rouge.
